Internet Marketing Companies: 4 Subreddit Tabs, And What They Mean

By Arthur Williams

If you've been on Reddit for any length of time, you know that the most popular content fluctuates. This is largely due to the upvote-downvote system that the aforementioned social media platform is built around, and there are no signs of it fading away anytime soon. If you're a Reddit newbie, you should be aware of the tabs that these subreddits have, as they help organize content differently. Here are 4 of the aforementioned tabs detailed by an Internet marketing company.

Best - If you click onto a subreddit, this is going to be the default tab by which content is sorted. As the name suggests, it organizes posts with the "best" ones being shown first. According to companies like fishbat, the more that a post is upvoted, the higher it, as well as its replies, will show. These are the reasons why this is the default setting but, as you'll come to learn, there are other options that you can take advantage of.

New - This is the next subreddit tab to cover, but it comes with its caveats. While the "new" option is good at organizing content by its date of publication, the truth is that there's little regulation when it comes to value. In other words, not everything you find with this setting is going to be worthwhile, which means that you have to be willing to sift through spam from time to time. Nonetheless, it's a worthwhile option that may help you engage fellow Reddit users easier.

Top - This inclusion may seem strange, given the "best" tab discussed earlier, but the "top" option is still very different. The reason for this is that the "top" posts on Reddit account for upvotes alone, no matter how many downvotes they generate. On the flipside, the "best" posts account for both upvotes and downvotes. For those that are only looking for posts with upvotes in mind, the former tab is the one you should use.

Controversial - Not every discussion on Reddit is going to be an entirely positive one, as there are many that spur heated debates. By using the "controversial" tab, your content will be organized by overall interaction, even if it's negative. In fact, this can be a useful tab if you're looking to see which conversations are gaining the most traction. For marketers, this will make content creation down the road that much easier.
