Alternatives To Air Compressor Service

By Debra Cooley

A device that can convert power into kinetic energy by pressurizing and compressing the air is called an air compressor. The air can be released in quick bursts on command. There are several reasons and causes about any damage sustained by the device. What is fortunate is that the repair process, either at home or by an air compressor service, is easily done.

Professional repair services will be considerably expensive due to all the parts and the cost of labor that it runs on. There is a chance that regular folks can do the repair process on their own without having to seek out a professional. All it takes is the know how and remembering a few things.

The essentials must be check on, which would technically be step number one. Inspect the device and try to figure out what the problem is. Sometimes, it can be as simple as a lack of power. Or could have been a power surge that momentarily disabled it. Note that it has a rest button that can help out a lot.

Low oil levels can also be caused by these power troubles. Check on the essentials again before anything else is undertaken. Many would think of it as an easy solution. Some will take it farther than necessary by, say, dismantling everything. Truthfully, pressing the rest button would have sufficed.

Your sense of hearing can be extremely important in the fixing process. These devices have the tendency to make certain noises, and a lot of it. But the healthy sounding compressor is clearly worse off than the damaged sounding noise. This is one of the most important steps to be taken during the repair.

Start it up and allow it to run for a bit. While this is being done, be sure to pay very close attention to whatever sound it is making. Note if it is a lot louder than it normally is. Also be on the lookout for knocking sounds, especially if the engine itself is already running. Those are the signs of something from within that is coming loose.

It may be something that is very simple and should not cause too much trouble during the repairs like a loose belt guard. Sometimes it could be very damaging and will be a bit more difficult to fix. An example would be a broken rod bearing. Should there be any cause for concern, open it up and take a look.

After a strong suspicion has developed or if the problem has been accurately diagnosed, you may open the device but not without a special toolkit. This tool kit comes equipped with just about everything needed for the job, and it can be bought at virtually any hardware store. Potential leaks and things like loose parts must be searched.

Make sure all the preparations are ready before diving into such a task on your own. If you are not capable or do not have the means to get things done, then perhaps it would be time to get an air compressor service and hire them to do the job. Unless that is the desired outcome, treat your compressor with respect and take good care of it.
