Improve Health With Pure Raw Honey

By Robert Parker

Sometimes it can be hard to choose which foods to eat for better health but sometimes it is the simple products that can provide the most benefits. In recent, people have heard about edibles that also have healing powers and can even help burn excess fat. Besides eating a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables with dense grains, pure raw honey can serve many medicinal purposes.

While some dieters may have heard that honey is good for losing weight, this is only partially true. Most brands sold in major supermarkets have undergone a heating process that eliminates most of the nutrients essential to a good diet. One way to tell is by the lighter color, or if the ingredient label lists other flavors, corn syrup or sugar.

This also holds true with most prepared products that list honey as one of the ingredients. While the best way would be to make dishes at home, reading the food product label and checking for additives or sugars can be just as helpful. Over the counter medicines may add just enough honey to give a sweet taste but the good news is that the pure version is good for cleaning wonders and acting as a natural antibiotic.

Wounds and cuts may benefit from its antibiotic properties but many take it for sinus or chest congestion. When taken by itself, the thick consistency can have a soothing effect. Another way would be to add to hot water with lemon juice. It also contains antioxidants and immune boosters that have the potential to ward off serious diseases.

Those looking to get away from processed sugar will find this to be a better replacement over processed artificial sweeteners. Besides no aftertaste, there are no side effects and a little can make a difference. If substituting for recipes that call for sugar, a little bit may be combined with agave nectar, fruit juice concentrate or purees to prevent sugar spikes and excess calories.

Raw sweeteners are not always easy to find in chain grocers but there are many merchants both online and in person that carry the real thing. Some outdoor markets carry organic edibles at a reasonable price. One thing that may be surprising is the appearance, as this type is darker in color when liquefied. The other type may look creamy but it is really solidified crystals that melt when heated.

The one thing to look for is a label that specifies that the product is raw, or made with minimal processing. Labels that say natural or pure may still mean that the honey has been processed to a degree. Another difference is the price, as the raw version may be a little higher than popular commercial brands.

Besides being a natural healer and beauty product that helps improve skin and hair, dieters will find this product of great value. Just a teaspoon with water and a lemon slice can make a refreshing drink that not only detoxifies the body but can curb sugar cravings. When taken in moderation, pure honey can be beneficial to anyone watching their figure.
