Share Your Passion With A Blog For Fandoms

By Etta Bowen

With its possibilities for blogging, the internet is a great platform for sharing the things you are passionate about. You can write about food or books for sport, for instance, and share your thoughts with others who have similar interests. These days, fans of certain movies or television shows don't even have to go to conventions anymore to meet like-minded individuals. You can simply share your passion online with a blog for fandoms.

There is a fandom for almost everything under the sun. You'll find ones for specific sports teams, for bands, for movies and TV shows and even for books. Fans of a certain author will have their own fandom and there are also ones for specific genres, for instance Japanese manga. A fandom can be quite organized, with its own fanzine, website and events. You'll also find that some fans take their passion very seriously, to the point of obsession.

Probably the most famous fandom is the one known as Trekkies. These are fans of the 'Star Trek' television series and films. They organize conventions where they dress up as their favorite characters, including Captain Kirk or Spock. Some have learned to speak Klingon, a language developed specifically for the series, and there are even Klingon versions of great Shakespeare plays.

Another science fiction series that has gathered a devoted fan base is the 'Star Wars' films. Like Trekkies, fans of the 'Star Wars' franchise are very serious about their passion. Many are willing to pay thousands of dollars for original figurines of characters such as Darth Vader, Han Solo, Princess Leia or Chewbacca. This is also the fandom to belong to if you've always wanted to wield a light saber.

The 'space Western' series 'Firefly' was canceled after only one season. However, it garnered a huge cult following and its fans are known as Browncoats, after the name for the group of fighters that their heroes used to belong to. A famous fictional Browncoat is Dr Sheldon Cooper of 'The Big Bang Theory'. Browncoats often take part in charity drives and a popular accessory is a homemade 'Jayne hat' like the one that the character of Jayne wore in one episode.

Not only space-themed films and televisions series have dedicated fans. A fandom that developed quite recently is that of the epic fantasy series 'Game of Thrones'. Just like Trekkies learn to speak Klingon, fans of the series based on George R. R. Martin's books sometimes learn the invented language of the Dothraki tribe.

Terry Pratchett's 'Discworld' series of novels also has its dedicated fans. These people tend to have a quirky sense of humor, just like that displayed in Pratchett's novels. For instance, in the novels there is often reference to a song known as 'The Hedgehog Song'. Fans of the series came up with their own lyrics to this fictional song.

If you're a devoted fan of something, find blogs about it and share your thoughts in the comments sections. Otherwise, create a blog of your own. You may even opt for something very specific, such as recipes for foods mentioned in a series or instructions for making costumes.
