New York Web Design: The Pros & Cons Of Working Independently

By Arthur Williams

There has been a spike in the number of independent New York web design workers, in this day and age, which make sense. People seem to have easier access to the most valuable of tools, even going beyond Photoshop, Illustrator, and the like. With that said, working by oneself can both positive and negative aspects to consider. For those who might be looking to get involved in this type of work, the following pros and cons should be recognized.

PRO - You have your choice of possible clients to work with. Those who work with big businesses must work within the parameters they are assigned, meaning that they cannot pick and choose who they do business with. However, those who operate on independent levels in the web design New York scene can choose whomever they'd like to do business with. To say that this benefit matters would be an understatement, and companies such as Avatar New York can say the same.

CON - There will not be as many perspectives to work with. New York internet marketing companies work well for a number of reasons, chief among them the many personalities involved in the creative process. This is what helps to create effective work, which might not be seen on the independent side of things. For this reason, if you're going to work in this particular field, you have to know this will be one compromise you'll have to make.

PRO - You are able to set up your own schedule. For many, this might be one of the biggest perks to be covered, especially for those who have families or generally busy lives outside of work. When you're able to set up your own schedule, it's easier to exercise the freedom covered earlier. With that said, you have to be able to run this by the clients you work with, so that they have a better understanding of what to expect on a weekly basis.

CON - Financial matters will be in your hands. Along with the creative component that independent web design is known for, you will have to account for the financial side of things as well. This might be a challenge, which isn't seen in larger firms that offer health benefits and the like to their employees. When you're working alone, it's difficult to account for the economic side of things, which is why a degree of financial savvy will be required.
